Cortana presents a short experimental dance film, a collaboration between director Vincent Moon and the choreographer Jana Jacuka to capture its essence through movement and music.

The sacred feminine, a dialogue that connects with the flow of emotions and sisterhood are some of the elements that come together in a ritual choreography in which mermaids, circular time and the changing of the seasons are invoked.

Jana Jacuka, choreographer and co-creator of the film explains the creative process "The first impulse for inspiration came from the space; an abandoned quarry resembling an emptied pool where our shoal of ghost Sirens sense their way through the surroundings, interweaving their bodies like fabric waves, shifting shapes and singing their songs of temptation, tuning into the telluric energy to lure others into their ritual with their magnetic powers. Sensing “the mysterious earth-currents which thrill the clay of our bodies” as Rudyard Kipling said. Slicing through the stone to slip into slow-motion statues, crystallised spirituality, carving their own destiny".

"The second impulse for inspiration came by immersing these figures in this space in a two-hour ritual, never stopping or starting again like the relentless hand of time; only coming up for air once they left the enchantment of the quarry."

"And the third impulse came from Rosa Esteva, Cortana's creative director. Her unique understanding of colours, just as in nature, always in transition, never still, ever-shifting like the changing of the seasons. Colours gradually creep over and seep into the figures, who surrender to a dance of constant, harmonious change. A slow process - seasons take time for nature to change colours, and so did the concept of this film."
